Separation

I have worked full time all of J's life. Being a teacher, I am lucky to have off all holidays and so it is an ideal job to have when having a child. To top it off, Paul and I have a schedule where J is in very minimal daycare so he is usually home with one of us. So I have had off about 2 weeks before Summer school started. There were a few occasions in those 2 weeks where my m-in-law watched J for a few hours, which happens frequently, as she watched him one afternoon per week during the school year. Well, all of a sudden, J is crazy about being home without me or Paul. He is so worried about going to daycare, or having someone else watch him. It is weird. The only thing I can figure is that I was home for over 2 weeks and he just got super-used to me being home and he hates to see me go. I told him today that I have to work tomorrow and he was crazy asking questions....Who was coming over? Did mom-mom have to come? I explained that I will be home before dad goes to work and that I am only working 1/2 day. But he keeps asking questions. I am sort-of glad to go back to work so J gets used to "real-life". I didn't think kids at his age got like this but here we are! Anyone with a 4 year old, have you dealt with this?

VENTING- Tennis is so stupid and confusing...

Ok so Paul is a huge tennis fan and we are currently watching ("we" being Paul watching, me trying to stay awake) tennis on the Tennis Channel . Wimbledon is on (yawn) and Paul is trying to teach me how some one would win a tennis game/set/match. Apparently, the scoring is Love, 15, 30, 40, game. First of all, what the heck is that? Love means zero, so why don't they just say the score is 0-0???? Why some stupid name like Love? So then they count 15, 30, 40? Why? How about 1, 2, 3 then I win? I am so confused! BUT WAIT!!! IT gets better! So apparently you have to win 6 games to win a set. But you must win by 2 games. WHY? Then if you only win by 1 or you tie, then you play a tie breaker where you actually use the scoring 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. What the F? To win a match, men have to win 3 sets to win and women have to win 2 sets to win the match. So this stupid match has been on for like 2 hours and I am bored out of my mind! Whoever invented the scoring and rules is just way out there and did it just to confuse people like me. I told Paul it should be just one game, and if you win, you win! For example, "Joe Schmoe just beat Johnny Tennisguy 4-7!" No- It cannot be that easy! They play like 100 "games" and no matter if they win, they have to win a jillion times before they actually have the satisfaction of winning! Paul is currently laughing at me but come on, seriously? Life is confusing enough. I don't need tennis to make it worse. I think I will go in the other room and watch reruns of Seinfeld.

Check up

For those interested, I had a good check up today with the OB/GYN. Heard the baby's heartbeat (150 BMP), had good BP and lost 3 lbs! yay! I didn't really like this doctor, but get to meet the last two over the next few months.

Weekend happenings

Another tee-ball game....
J displays his true talent. I am one proud mommy!

We made a campsite on J's bed. He actualy napped in there!

J ate cotton candy at the Ironbirds game.

We pulled out the bubble machine! The picture doesn't show it but the thing spews out tons of bubbles!
I went shopping for materity clothing. I do have some from 5 years ago when I was pregnant with J but I needed some updated stuff. The old stuff seems so frumpy! I don't need it too much right now but my pants are getting uncomfortable so I thought that I might as well be comfortable and get some clothes.
As I mentioned before, we went to a minor league baseball game on Saturday. We got the tix through the Rec center for tee-ball. Needless to say, we were less than thrilled to find that we paid $30 for tix that didn't even get us a seat! We had this "picnic deck" area and we scrounged for a table. From our table you couldn't see the game! Unlike the Orioles game, we couldn't bring in our own food so not only did we pay $30 for tix, but another $30 for bad food. They had a moonbounce and such but that even cost money. J was so grouchy and bored after 2 hours that we left by the 4th inning. I think it is terrible that the rec center didn't tell us that we wouldn't have seats. I would have sprung an extra few buck to get better seats! We spent half that amount seeing a major league team last week! and we had more fun! anyhow, you live and you learn...never buy baseball tickets from the rec center!
Anyhow, hope everyone had a fun weekend!

Picky kid

Have I mentioned how picky J is? Not just with food but with everything! He is particular about his shirts, underclothing(undies and undershirts) and pants. It is driving me crazy!
First of all, he is so picky when it comes to food! He eats nothing which makes it very difficult. I am picky too but come on! It it weren't for peanut butter, my kid would starve!
Undershirts- This winter, he hated his undershirts because they "have hills!" I am not sure exactly what J meant by hills but I assume it is because they might be lumpy under his clothing. So I had to go out and get the sleeveless undershirts aka. wife-beaters. That solved that problem. He calls them "no hills undershirts"
Recently, he has been picky about underwear. I am not sure why but all of a sudden they bother him. So I had to go out and buy bigger undies, hoping that would solve the issue. They seem a tad large for him but he is no longer complaining.
Shirts- Shirts must sleeves, and can't be too short, OR too long. Shorts- I am not sure of the crieteria but he hates certain shorts. Case in point- He just got dressed. I put him in these blue shorts that are EXACTLY like the shorts he wore yesterday just a diferent color. He is currently running around the living room freaking out over the stupid shorts! He says they are driving him crazy. I give up.
If anyone in bloggy land has a suggestion, please let me know.

Take me out to the ballgame!

Last night, P, J and I wento the the Orioles game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. We met up with J's firends, Paul and Caroline and their family. It is a really neat program through Chick-Fil-A where for $17, kids get 10 tickets to see the O's (as well as a free gift each game, a backpack, a hat, etc...) and adults can get $6 tickets. So for under $30, we had a fun night cheering on the Orioles! The kids had a ball- there is a moon bounce, face painting, and a clown that makes balloon animals all for free. They sell food for kids for $1 which is unheard of! We brought our own food and the kids munched on snacks while we watched the game. We left after the 7th inning but the O's beat the Pirates 8-7. Go O's!

Its the most Wonderful...

time of the year! The last day of school! Honestly, I think teachers are more excited than the kids. While there were a few children in my class who I will miss, this has been a challenging year and I am looking forward to a new brood of fourth graders next year. The fifth graders "graduated" today and there were MANY kids in that class (my class from the previous year) who were near and dear to my heart. I really bonded with my class last year. One boy brought me to tears saying good-bye to me. He was all filled up and I lost it! It is rare to get a class like I had last year. Great kids.....
I am looking forward to some time off before Summer school begins.

As for the weather, it was so much better today. My classroom was much less humid and only 84 degrees. You might be shocked to hear that I was excited about 84 degrees however, for 2 days it has been 90 degrees and high humidity! So today was much better! J and I played outside after we got home and that was nice after 3 days inside. He needed to burn off his endless energy and I got to blow bubbles and draw with sidewalk chalk! Good times!

Cute Baby things

One of the sweet kids in my class gave me some baby items for an end of the year gift. I had forgotten how cute and wonderful baby clothes/items are. The best was a large container of Dreft which all of you moms know, smells so nice. Just like a baby! :) Everything is yellow and white (gender neutral) with little ducks on it. Too cute!

Things Not to say to your teacher

Today we had a half day due to the 98 degree forecast and by 9:00 my clasroom was 90 degrees. Not the best environment for learning. Everyone was a bit irritable and here are some of the comments I got from children today:
5. Do we have recess today? (Reminder that it was a half day and 98 degrees outside.)
4. Can I have another popsicle? ( I bought them popsicles out of the goodness in my heart) When I said no, he said "Awww- that's not fair!" Seriously...Ungrateful much?
3. Do I have to help carry these books down to the bookroom? (Again, seriously? Carrying 2 books isn't going to kill you!)
2. Its not fair that girls get to wear short shorts and skirts and boys have to wear long shorts! (Apparently, the law that boy's shorts have to hang down to their shins passed w/o my knowing)
And the most IRRITATING thing I heard today.......
1. IT'S HOT IN HERE! (Really? I didn't notice!)
Ok- I am done venting....Have I mentioned that I cannot wait for June 11th?

The forecast for Wednesday is in the 80's- Finally a cool down! :)

Its the heat and the humidity!

Ok so I mentioned that yesterday was supposed to be hot but GOODNESS- it was a miserable day. We got to J's tee ball game at 10 :30 and it was already 86 degrees with high humidity. J didn't make it one hour for the game. Poor Paul, standing out on the field with the kids. Yuk. I sat in my chair and got sweat -soaked. It was not fun nor probably the best thing to do- play ball in the heat. All of the games after ours were cancelled but had I had known how bad it would be on the shadeless field, I would have kept J home. We all came home, showered and napped and then had to head out for a graduation party. More sweating. I decided that my headache last night was heat related and so today, we will stay inside! I may make one trip to Target but that is it! So all of you dealing with this awful heat, stay cool!

Hot temps

Today is supposed to be in the high 90's with high humidity. We have a Tee ball game at 10:45. I am really looking forward to being there. (smile) Those who know me know how much I hate to be hot. My job is not air conditioned and so usually by 10 AM, I am sweaty and hot. I usually have to come home and shower in order to function in the evenings. Our joke at work is that in these hot days, we have to peel off our undies to use the bathroom! I know- Gross. But humor is our coping mechanism. If it weren'tsuch a great school, I'd have transferred to a school with A/C. But I love my school and so there I stay. June is tollerable. The school is still cool in the mornings and so it takes a few hours to get hot and steamy. My room was 84 degrees yesterday. But when we return in August, the school has been closed up all summer. The school is boiling the minute we walk in. It takes till late October for the school to cool down.
So wish me cool thoughts today. I will need them!

Tee Ball

J is playing Tee Ball this year. It started off a little shaky. He didn't like when other kids got the ball and he cried and pouted. Good times. He also would hit the ball, pick it up and run. Lovely. Well, I am happy to say that after a few practices and games, he has gotten much better with the pouting/crying act and knows that when the ball is hit, you run to first base, not after the ball!
He is enjoying the game more now which is good. The games aren't as painful for us to watch! We are 1/2 way through the season so I hope he continues to improve.

Is it summer yet?

Welcome to the new Brennan Blog! This blog will keep loved ones up to date with the going-ons in the Brennan home. So enjoy!

In one week, I will officially be off for the summer, well, at least until summer school starts. After such a challenging year, I am looking forward to some time off. I am almost 12 weeks pregnant and I am seeing the light at the end of the nausea tunnel. THANK GOD! I need some time off to relax. BTW_ To those who don't know, we are expecting #2 in late December (Chiristmas isn't busy enough- why not deliver a baby!) J is so psyched. Of course, once he realizes that his little world will change, he might feel differently! He hasn't had to share us in over 4 years so this will be interesting.
So anyway, I will try to update every day or two if there is anything interesting going on!
